James Hunt – a painting history

James Hunt is a man of many parts, having always had a great many wide-ranging interests. These range from mountain and rock climbing, motorcycle racing, plus guitar and violin playing – all as a regular and active participant – to industrial archaeology and architecture, plus a purely layman’s interest in the study of the universe. All of these many interests have, says James, been reflected in his paintings’ style or subject at some stage.

James Hunt has no formal art qualifications, but he has always had an interest in the arts, and in painting and drawing in particular. Though he loves many aspects of modern art, as well as the Impressionists and other art movements, he also likes representative art that is true to its subject, and his portraits reflect this, being free with their backgrounds but accurate in their subjects’ faces. Realism is key to his portraiture.

He also paints landscapes, mountains, industrial archaeological scenes, machines and life figures, some of these being much more free or impressionistic.

James Hunt undertakes commissions on most subjects, including portraiture based on photographs supplied by subjects or their families.
