To order a portrait (or any other) painting commission from James Hunt, you must first indicate your interest and requirements by emailing him on: james.a.hunt@talktalk.net
Describe as briefly as possible, the type of painting that you require – portrait, nude, landscape, still-life, industrial scene etc., with some brief description of the actual subject. Then indicate the required medium – oils, acrylics watercolour, pastels, pen & ink, pencil etc. James Hunt will reply by email. Then you can place your commission order. The painting will be delivered framed.
For this work, James always paints from photographs. Those commissioning a portrait must email him at least four different colour photos of the subject. They must be taken by digital camera with a reasonably good lens (very cheap cameras and mobile phone cameras may not be good enough). All photos emailed must be at least 300dpi resolution and at least 1MB file size. The highest or second highest quality setting in your camera should be sufficient. Tip: don’t photograph subjects with bright direct sunlight full in the face (although from an angle may be fine). Avoid flash photography.
The portrait:
James will, unless otherwise requested, paint the portrait on high quality A4 art paper in watercolour and pen, portrait shaped (long side vertical). A suitable mount and frame will be provided. For special commissions, ie: paintings that are not portraits, or are required to be larger than A4, or landscape shaped (long side horizontal), or in media that are not watercolour – all this should be clearly indicated in the initial email.
Prices:
Standard watercolour portrait – mounted & framed: £200 + p&p
Other prices subject to order.
Delivery and payment:
Upon James Hunt accepting a commission, the commissioning person must pay him a £50 deposit by PayPal (www.paypal.co.uk). In return, James Hunt undertakes, upon receipt of the deposit, to paint a portrait as accurately as possible. There must be a minimum of two months between receipt of commission and delivery. Before delivery, however, James Hunt will email a full-size digital copy of the partly finished painting. The painting can be rejected but half of the deposit (£25) will be lost. If the painting is accepted for completion, James will then finish it.
Upon receipt of another £170, which includes £20 for postage & packing (again by PayPal), James Hunt will post the painting, properly packaged, by secure delivery. This gives the required total of £200 + £20 deposit.
